Distance: 5 Miles
Map:
Where: Meet in the foyer of Nemo Ranger's Trabeg Sports Centre at 7pm every Monday, except Bank Holidays.
Description:
This route is aimed at ladies who have reached a good level of firness. They will generally cover the distance in approx. 50 - 55 minutes.
Starting at the Centre, cross the South Douglas Road (aka "Back" Douglas Road) and up Tramore Lawn, we then stop for a stretch at Marian Rose properties on the Douglas Road. This is after about 0.5 Mile. After that we head towards Douglas, turning left into Woodview before taking another left up the Well Road towards Lovett's Roundabout. This is the hardest section, with about 0.5 mile uphill. From here we head past the Silver Key pub, continuing up the hill past Cork Con and swing a left onto Boreenmanna Road, past Pairc Ui Rinn (Flower Lodge). Continue along Boreenmanna Road, through the traffic lights at Wallace's Avenue. At the next set of pedestrian lights, veer right away from the road leading onto the South Link, along the Old section of the Boreenmanna Road. Take the next left and pass the South Infirmary/Victoria Hospital on your right. Continue straight through the next two junctions, up Summerhill South, past the Capwell bus depot to the next lights at Summerhill/Evergreen Road junction. Turn left here onto Evergreen Road and continue straight ahead for about 1.5 miles, along South Douglas Road until you pass the Texaco petrol station on your right. Immediately after Texaco, cross the road CAREFULLY! and turn right and back down to Nemo.
How to get there:
From the Cork City: Head towards Douglas on the South Douglas Road. Take the first right approx. 200m after the Texaco petrol station (on your right) and go straight down to the end where, after about 1/4 mile, the road turns left. The gated entrance to Nemo is almost straight in front of you as you turn.
From the N22 (from the west): Take the N22 eastward, taking the FIRST slip road for Douglas. Go left at the next mini-roundabout on the South Douglas Road, heading towards Cork City. Passing O'Sullivan's Chemist (on your left), take the THIRD next left and continue as above.
When:
7pm every Monday, except Bank Holidays.
Health & Safety:
You will be running with a small group, probably with a group leader. During times of the year when the run is in darkness or twilight, you are strongly advised to wear a Hi-Hiz jacket, bib, vest of belt. Remember YOU are responsible for your own safety. The biggest danger is from cars and motorists rarely hit things they see. Be wise - be seen!
