Written by Joe Roche

Recently we floated the idea of any away trip next year to Edinburgh City to run the half marathon on March 16th 2008, and there has been a very positive response. So it looks like Edinburgh it is.edinburghmarathon.jpg

If you are interested in travelling, please call me on 087-2345783 or click here to email me. Just let me know who’s travelling, which airport you arrive into and the dates you intend to travel.

Take a look at the race site @ http://www.edinburgh-half.co.uk/

You can enter the race @ http://www.edinburgh-half.co.uk/downloads/2008EntryForm.pdf

Note: On the PDF or on-line entry page enter/select the following:

Club: Other

Club Other: Eagle AC

Affiliation Number: You will need to enter your AAI Reg number here.  Pat Murphy or John Quigley can give you this.  If you don't enter anything for these boxes, the entry fee will cost you £2 more.

You have two good flight options, either direct with Aer Arann Cork – Edinburgh or Cork Glasgow with Ryan Air. Site links below.

Ryan Air appear a good deal cheaper than Aer Arann at the moment, but you have the extra travel from Glasgow Prestwick.  If there are enough people interested, we can arrange transport to/from Prestwick, which should reduce the travel costs considerably.

When we have a more definite idea of the size of the travel party and the lengths of their intended stay, we’ll try organise group accommodation. If it proves to be a hassle, we’ll let people arrange their own accommodation, which some people may prefer to do any way.

Forum - Trip Info/Discussion

We've opened a new forum category for the trip. We've already posted some details/specifics - if you have better info, please let us know. Feel free to discuss, post info, whatever, about the trip - that's what the forum is for!

Edinburgh is a beautiful city with lots to do for everyone.

Some people might want to catch a match on the Saturday before the run, both Hibs and Celtic are playing at home on that weekend, it’s just a short trip up the road to Glasgow, check out the sites for ticket details.

Edinburgh is the home of golf I’m told, so that’ll keep a few of you happy.

There are some stunning walks nearby, Arthur’s seat in the City is a beautiful place for a nice relaxing walk.

About a 20 minute drive out from Edinburgh is a beautiful area for walking called the Pentland,

Or if you’re really adventurous, you might want to take a trip to the Highlands, Glencoe is an area that comes highly recommended.
