20th Annual Tommy Ryan Memorial 5 Mile Race

The 20th Annual Eagle 5 will be held at 11am on Sunday February 24th 2008.  Following last year's change to 8k, to facilitate the Eagle 25 celebratory race series, the 2008 event reverts to the traditional 5 Mile distance.

Another change which will be retained is moving the start from the Carrigaline By-pass to Waterpark Estate.  This change, which resulted in a faster start, was made to facilitate traffic management and was hugely successful.

The 2008 event, coming two weeks before Ballycotton, should prove attractive with those finalising their preparations and it is hoped that entries will come close to the 2007 record of 221 entries.

Medical Services

This year, Eagle will have an ambulance, with trained personnel in attendance.  In addition several Eagle members are trained in CPR and defibrillation.  A contact protocol will be in place to enable rapid contact, if required, between stewards/officials and the ambulance personnel.

Entries:

Entries will be taken on the day, from approx. 9.30 onwards, in Carrigaline Community Centre.  Last entries 10.45am.

You can also Pre-Register for the race here or go back to the Eagle homepage and clicking on the link there

Click HERE to Pre-Register     Pre-register for express entry on the day!

Pre-Registering will allow you to short-circuit all the form filling on race day and just go straight to the Pre-Registered desk, pay your entry fee and collect your number.

Charity

For the past four years, 25% of the entry fee has gone to local charity Carrigaline Meals On-Wheels. In 2007, we donated €450 from 220 entries.

Defibrillator Fund Donations

Eagle AC intends purchasing a defibrillator for use at Club training and events.  The Club also intends making the unit available to Cork AAI.  The unit will cost approx. €1600. A donation bucket will be located in the hall.  Please give generously!

There have been a number of cardiac incidents at recent athletic meets.  On two occasions a defibrillator was available and timely intervention by trained personnel saved the individuals lives. Lets get more of these units in as many clubs as possible!

Results, Photographs & Presentation of Prizes:

None of us likes the idea of waiting around "all day" for results., consequently Eagle strives to produce timely results. Presentation of prizes is scheduled to take place at approx. 12:25 on the day.  Limited copies of the results, on the basis of one copy per club/media, will be available after the presentation.  Full results are expected to be posted on the website by 14:00.  Race photographs should be posted in the Gallery on the website later in the day.

Race HQ/Changing/Parking

Click on the icon/pointer for more information.  Parking at the Community Centre is very limited, so we are advising people to use the car-park just off the By-pass road. There is ample parking here and it is only about 100m to the hall.
