Eagle AC is holding a pilot series of track races in March and April.
The series, consisting of a 3k, 1M and 800m races, will be held at the CIT track, during Eagle's regular 7pm to 8pm club session. The events are confined to Eagle AC club members along with invited guests.
The prime idea behind the event is to provide quality race experience for club members, ahead of key championship races. Depending on the numbers and standards, it is likely that the races will be graded, i.e. that two or more races will be held each night, with faster athletes competing in one. If the series proves successful, it is hoped to repeat the series, so that times and progress can be measured.
While athletes will be responsible for taking their own times, it is intended to record results. It is intended that the series will provide valuable track experience for Club members and also generate a greater interest in track race.
A further development is the agreement, in principle, of the Club to join with other Cork clubs in holding a graded leagues track series during the coming months.
The details have yet to be fleshed out, but the events will be held during each club's regular sessions.
