C Team – Cancer Survivors - Cork City Marathon Relay Team

Five Cancer Survivors to next Monday’s Cork City Marathon Relay to raise Cancer awareness and to inspire others facing Cancer treatment or who are recovering from their treatment.

The idea was first proposed by Eagle member John Quigley last December and the team was finally filled early in May.  Since the team was announced in the media, several more cancer survivors have emerged, who are running the Cork City Marathon, either as part of a relay team, or actually doing the full 26.2 miles.

The C Team - Cancer Survivors is a very special and unique relay team:

Each of the members is a Cancer survivor!

The team members are:

Dan Byrne, Mallow AC, Oesophegeal Cancer

Joe Deane, Killeagh GAA Club, Testicular Cancer

Joe Dineen, Blackpool, Prostate Cancer

John Quigley, Eagle AC, Prostate Cancer

John Ryan, Cork Tri Club, Testicular Cancer

The primary aims of the group are:

1) To raise the profile and awareness of cancer survivors. We're still here and getting on with life. (It may not be easy, but, bugger it, we're dealing with it)

2) To show those facing cancer, whether diagnosed or supporting someone who is dealing with cancer, that we’re getting on with life… and they can too

3) To make contact with other cancer survivors who might join with us in future events and finally

4) (Maybe) raise a bit of money, though this is not a core aim.

The group have three nominated cancer associated charities. You can contribute either on line by following the links below, or else directly to any of the team members.

Irish Cancer Society

ARC House

Cork Cancer Research Centre

The C Team – Cancer Survivors would like to expand the group with a view to next years relay event, and maybe other events as well. If you’re a cancer survivor and would like to get involved, please contact us. If you’re a survivor and don’t run at present, you’ve got 12 months to do it! Unfortunately we have no women on the team this year, though Berniece Glavin, a member of St. Finbarr’s AC and a breast cancer survivor, is doing the full marathon.

Eagle AC is delighted and proud to be associated with the ‘C Team – Cancer survivors’
