The first track meeting of the season took place last Sunday wheh Leevale held their open sports at the Mardyke track.
Ann Marie Healy and Niamh Roe represented Eagle and showed no ill effects from their efforts in the AAI National Road Relays in Raheny the previous Sunday.
Their first event was the 1500. Both sat in behind the early leader Fiona O'Shea of Limerick AC for the first 400m. Ann Marie then took over the lead and was followed by Niamh. They were together all the way up to the last 200m where Ann Marie's superior finishing kick took her away from Niamh to win in 5:10 from Niamh in 5:13 and O'Shea 5:19.
In the 3000m, the early leader was Jessica Von Hatten of Leevale, Ann Marie and Niamh stayed in behind Carmel Parnell, also of Leevale. After 800m Carmel upped the pace and went into the lead. She was tracked all the way by Niamh and they opened a gap on Ann Marie, who was back in 4th place. At the bell Niamh eased past Carmel and pulled away to win impressively in 10:41 from Carmel, 10:46, while Ann Marie got up to 3rd in the last 200m, to finish in 11:13.
Ann Marie also went in the 400m and despite her exertions in the 1500 and 3000 still managed 5th place in 67secs.
Two wins, a 2nd and a 3rd was not a bad days work for the two Eagle girls.
